Lamivudine complexes with nucleic acids (green) in HBV polymerase, highlighting residues related to drug resistance.
SeqHepB is a web-based decision support tool to assist physicians to optimise and individualise the treatment schedule of patients with chronic hepatitis B. Evivar has the world's most complete collection of hepatitis B drug resistance mutations, which is stored in a searchable database linked to intelligent software through a web interface.
The use of currently available drugs for the treatment of CHB as well as the addition of more anti-viral drugs becoming available, will make the treatment landscape for CHB one where physicians are faced with an increasingly complex decision making process to optimise patient treatment.
SeqHepB can also be used to map the mutational 'pathways' of resistance as well as the rapidly emerging clinical issues of cross-resistance (CR) and multi-drug resistance (MDR).
An HBV resistance profiling system must keep up with a virus that is continually changing. It is this unrelenting evolution during antiviral therapy that is at the centre of MDR. In terms of mutation, the HBV is not limited to point mutations but also has insertions and/or deletions causing mutational resistance.
